Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer system that is designed to test a students comprehension of books they have read. Each book is evaluated by the AR company to determine the reading level and how many points can be earned for taking a test. A books point value is determined by the AR company based on length and difficulty of the book. Each test will have several questions to test the students comprehension of that book.
AR books in the CES library are labeled with colored stickers so that they can be easily located. Each book level is identified by a different color. This is why your child may tell you they need to get a "green dot book". Please help your child to remember what color they should be looking for when they come to the library.
As the students read books and complete AR tests they earn points depending on how well they perform on each test. These points accumulate over the year and as they reach each point level they are entered into that point club where they receive a dog tag from that club, their button will be placed on the Wild About Reading banners, located outside the Library Media Center, and their name will be announced during the Monday morning announcements. From year to year they will continue moving through the point clubs and will not start at zero points at the beginning of every school year.
