Health Science Lesson Plans 1/18 - 1/21

Standard:  The student will know and apply the academic subject matter required for entrance within the Health Science Career Cluster. 

Objective:  The student will begin to learn medical terms that are commonly used in the medical field.

Bellringer:  How was your weekend?  Essay should be at least half a page.

Procedures:  Medical terminology video #1.  This is the first video in a 14 video series that teaches 25 medical terms per week to students.  The students will learn a total of 350 commonly used medical terms in health care.

Materials:  Medical terminology video and DVD player.

Evaluation:  Terminology review.  If students are not getting it, at this point I will suggest making flash cards, and reviewing every night.

Standards:   The student will know and apply the academic subject matter required for entrance within the Health Science Career Cluster.  The student will evaluate the responsibilities necessary to become a member of the HOSA team.

Objective:  The student will learn some background information about the HOSA club. 

Bellringer:  Write down as many of the 25 medical terms and their meanings for this week you can remember.

Procedures:  HOSA power point explaining some of the background information of HOSA.  Look at HOSA website:  www.hosa.org.

Materials:  Powerpoint presentation, computer with internet access, and projector.

Evaluation:  Classroom discussion.  Dedicate a short period of time for students to ask questions about the HOSA club.

Thursday January 20, 2011

Standard:  The student will evaluate the responsibilities necessary to become a member of the HOSA team.

Objective:  The student will learn background information about the HOSA club.

Bellringer:  Write down as many medical terms and meanings you can remember.

Procedures:  Go over HOSA colors, emblem, creed, motto, official dress, and organizational levels.  Talk about HOSA competitive events, and what opportunities are available through the HOSA club.  Review medical terminology.

Materials:  Computer with internet access.  HOSA information packets.

Evaluation:  Class discussion.  Allow time for students who are not understanding the material to partner with other students. 

 Friday January 21, 2011

Standard:  The student will know and apply the academic subject matter required for entrance within the Health Science Career Cluster.  The student will evaluate the responsibilities necessary to become a member of the HOSA team.

Objective:  The student will understand HOSA background information.

Bellringer:  Essay:  Do you think you would be interested in joining the HOSA club?  Why or why not?   - a half page.

Procedures:  Medical terminology quiz #1.  Finish up HOSA information.  Complete study guide for Test #1 - HOSA

Materials:  Quiz and study guide.

Evaluation:  Quiz and review study guide.  For students who are behind I will try to pair them with another student.
