Explanation of Stockpiled Days

State law permits school systems to “bank” or “stockpile” instructional days by extending the regular student day. Normally students are required to attend school 6.5 hours per day and teachers are required to work 7.5 hours per day. Robertson County students attend school 7 hours per day which allows us to stockpile a total of 13 days for other purposes. The joint calendar committee recommends to the Board how these days will be used.

Stockpiling allows a school system to have days in reserve for inclement weather or for staff development. Here's how that works for the 2014-2015 school year.

Stockpiled Staff Development Days

There are four three stockpiled days designated for non-weather related purposes in 2014-2015. They are:

  1. Parent-Teacher Conferences -- September 15, 2014
  2. Curriculum Planning -- January 5, 2015
  3. Parent-Teacher Conferences -- February 10, 2014 - Canceled
  4. Two Early Release Days (one day in half where students are dismissed early so teachers can participate in collaborative planning)
    • October 31, 2014
    • April 2, 2015

Stockpiled Inclement Weather Days

This leaves nine ten days that can be used for inclement weather. Inclement weather days taken so far this year:
