Explanation of Stockpiled Days

State law permits school systems to “bank” or “stockpile” instructional days by extending the regular student day. Normally students are required to attend school 6.5 hours per day and teachers are required to work 7.5 hours per day. Robertson County students attend school 7 hours per day which allows us to stockpile a total of 13 days for other purposes. The joint calendar committee recommends to the Board how these days will be used.

Stockpiling allows a school system to have days in reserve for inclement weather or for staff development. Here's how that works for the 2013-2014 school year.

Stockpiled Staff Development Days

There are four stockpiled days designated for non-weather related purposes in 2012-2013. They are:

  1. Parent-Teacher Conferences -- September 16, 2013
  2. Curriculum Planning -- January 6, 2014 changed to January 8, 2014
  3. Parent-Teacher Conferences -- February 10, 2014
  4. Two Early Release Days (one day in half where students are dismissed early so teachers can participate in collaborative planning)
    • October 31, 2013
    • February 27, 2014

Stockpiled Inclement Weather Days

This leaves nine days that can be used for inclement weather. Inclement weather days taken so far this year:

  1. Friday, December 6, 2013
  2. Tuesday, December 10, 2013
  3. Monday, January 6, 2014
  4. Tuesday, January 7, 2014
  5. Wednesday, January 22, 2014
  6. Monday, February 3, 2014
  7. Monday, March 3, 2014
  8. Tuesday, March 4, 2014
