In Reading, students will be reading novels in groups.  Comprehension tests will be given at the end of each set of chapters assigned.  Vocabulary words will also come from these novels.  Each Thursday, students will be given a quiz over the Reading Skill that has been learned that week. 

In Language, students will be working on one or two particular grammar skills each week.  These skills will be incorporated into the novels being read in Reading.  On Wednesdays, students will take a Language Quiz over those skills plus others that have previously been learned. 

Writing will be incorporated into both Reading and Language through journals and prompts related to the novels being read. Prompts will be scored based on the state writing rubric used to score the TCAP writing test that students take in 5th, 8th, and 11th grade.
