Properties for Versioning

Before you can use the versions feature it has to be turned on. This is a per section setting. It is on by default, but you need to know how it works before you use it.

You will find a set of radio buttons to turn versioning on/off as well as a check box for how versioning behaves on the Properties page for every Text/Image section on your site (click the Properties link for a Text/Image section listed on the Main Configuration page).

Again, versioning is on by default for every Text/Image section. If you turn this off any existing versions of this section will disappear, but not be deleted. When this is off you lose the ability to manage versions for this page. When you turn versioning back on existing versions are restored (if they existed when you turned this off) as well as the ability to manage versions.

Act Like a Wiki

On the other hand, the "act like a wiki" feature is off by default. With this off you have to consiously tell SiteMaker when you want to create a new version of this section. If you turn this on (by checking the box) SiteMaker will automatically create a new version of the section eact time you edit it. Again, this is a per page or per section setting. If you find yourself making a lot of minir corrections to your web pages (fixing typos, etc.) you should probably leave this setting off, otherwise you will generate a pletora or new versions for each minor edit of a page.

To use the Save vs. Save As analogy, using the "act like a wiki" feature makes Save As the default operation rather than a plain Save.
