Killebrew joins her colleagues across TN, in representing the voices of teachers as they collaborate with the Department of Education, Tennessee Educators Association and the State Collaborative on Reforming Education, to raise the bar of education in Tennessee.

The Hope Street Group is an independent non-profit organization that partners with the other groups to elevate teacher voice with regards to educational policies in Tennessee.  “Teacher leaders are a driving force not only in their classrooms and buildings, but in their communities,” Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen said. “Their insight is incredibly powerful as we encourage and empower our teachers to take on new challenges."

Hope Street Group initiated efforts in Kentucky and then Hawaii, and has branched out to North Carolina and Tennessee this school year. According to a release, this first year, Hope Street Group Tennessee State Teacher Fellows will focus on Professional Learning and Teacher Leadership as the topics of their data collection.

Killebrew has already begun meeting with Robertson County School teachers in small focus groups to get input and ideas that she can then relay to the Hope Street Group with the ultimate purpose of delivering that information to those who make statewide education decisions.
