Severe Weather Procedures
Robertson County Board of Education's severe weather procedures are developed to proactively protect our students and staff members. During an inclement weather event, we work closely with local and state agencies—as well as monitor weather alerts and broadcasts—to make the best decision for our students and staff members.
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS DURING SEVERE WEATHER
Automated calls will be placed to student home phone numbers no later than 6 a.m. using the district’s emergency notification system (School Messenger) if conditions warrant the closing of schools. Local television* and radio stations** will also be notified by 6 a.m.
Information will also be posted on the district’s website (www.rcstn.net), social media (Facebook page).
Parents are encouraged to monitor these media outlets for the latest updates from the district.
It is important that parents do not call district offices or individual schools for information because phone lines must remain open during emergency situations.
Threatening weather that approaches at the end of the school day can present additional challenges. If a tornado warning is in place or severe weather is eminent at dismissal time, students will not be released until the all-clear is given. If a watch is in place at dismissal time, students will be released and sent home.
Buses will be held and not be in transit when there is immediate pending severe weather. If a bus is en route and the weather dictates immediate action, the bus will seek shelter at the nearest school. If flooding has occurred and buses are unable to safely deliver students to their assigned bus stops, students will be returned to their campuses.
Considerable time and effort goes into creating detailed plans and conducting drills during the school year to prepare students and staff should weather become threatening. We strive to ensure that parents know that the care and safety of their students is Robertson County School’s number one priority.
