On Saturday, April 2, GMS 7th grade math teachers Lea Keith and Michele Glover hosted a dual-feature math day event for students in order to both entertain and educate.

math puzzleFor one part of the event, students and families went through a short escape game in which students were "locked" in a room and they had to get the key to escape by solving a series of math problems and puzzles. Families and friends worked together against the clock to solve the math and crack the code.

The second part of the program involved a real life simulator, in which students learned how to budget for real life! For the simulator, students were assigned a job and a salary and they went through different life stations such as buying a house, a car or food for their families, learning how math is used in the every day world of budgeting!

The day's program was produced in partnership with the UT Extension office and was funded by the Old Hickory Credit Union.
