Jo Byrns FFA Chapter Wins Farm Hazard Hunt at National Convention
Posted on 12/03/2015
The Jo Byrns Future Farmers of America chapter placed first in a farm safety competition at the 2015 National FFA Convention and Expo in Louisville, KY, in October.

The competition, sponsored by Safety in Agriculture for Youth (SAY), and led by Penn State University, was a display depicting potential hazards through farm scenes using model tractors, machinery, equipment animals, structures, trees, a home yard, a stream and public road.

Teams of youth from 141 FFA chapters throughout the country identified as many hazards as they could on an entry form, with Jo Byrns submitting the winning entry Wednesday afternoon. The team, comprised of members: Jacob Garrison, Blake Arnold, Tracen Baggett, Josh Johnson, Dalton Sayle, and Dilan Parks, recently received an 8” x 10” wall plaque for display at school to recognize their achievement.

The "SAY" Project is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture’s, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and is a multi-faceted program that has created a national clearinghouse, which provides teachers with farm safety and health curriculum and other resources to help them meet national educational standards.
