Jo Byrns High School student Aleah Wix has recently been selected to attend the 2016 Tennessee Governor’s School for Humanities from June 5 to July 2, 2016.

Wix, a junior at JBHS, will attend the month-long event at the University of Tennessee at Martin.  She is one of only 52 students statewide to be selected from the more than 300 students who applied.  Her invitation includes a full scholarship from the Tennessee Department of Education which will cover tuition, housing and meals while she is there.

While there, Aleah will be taking classes in Political Science, Music in Our Time, Art History, English 111 (including writings from around the world), Philosophy, and History 202.  Afternoon sessions will include the subject of digital art using MacBooks and will allow the students to design their own yearbook for the session.

Wix is the daughter of Jeremy Wix and granddaughter of Roxanne Morris of Adams.
