The Tennessee Department of Education has released district-level results from the 2021-22 Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) achievement testing. Statewide, TCAP results demonstrate important growth and success that should be celebrated.

On a district level, student performance increased in all subject areas, returning to pre-pandemic levels in some areas. District proficiency levels overall are just below the state average.

In English Language Arts (ELA), overall student achievement increased by 5 percentage points. Elementary students maintained their previous performance rates while middle and high school students gained 5% and 6%, respectively. Additionally, ELA proficiency improved significantly for students with economic disadvantages. These improvements correspond with a specific focus on ELA instruction during the past school year.

Overall mathematics proficiency also saw an increase over 2021 but continues to lag pre-pandemic levels. All grade bands increased by at least 2 percentage points over the previous year. As a spotlight on middle grades, 7th grade math saw one of the largest increases (5%).

Further, science proficiency increased slightly overall from 2021, with the largest growth at the high school level. Science assessment standards were reset by TDOE in 2021.

Social studies proficiency rates demonstrated strong growth as well, increasing at the middle school grades by 3% and at the high schools by 4%.

We are proud of the performance of Robertson County students and the work done by Robertson County teachers. These results validate their tremendous efforts over the past year. While these outcomes serve to validate the previous work of students and teachers, they also demonstrate the need to continue supporting all our stakeholders as we strive together to see even greater gains in the future.
