Five Springfield High School student leaders recently attended the 2015 FBLA National Fall Leadership Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina in November.

The conference featured two outstanding keynote speakers but the students’ agreed-upon favorite was Alex Sheen, founder of "Because I said I would," an international social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept.

Each of the student said they were motivated by Sheen’s presentation, and challenged to do better things for themselves and others.

Along with hearing the keynote speakers, students were able to choose one from at least six different hourly sessions to hone their individual leadership skills.  Topics for these sessions included: Cooperation and Collaboration, Volunteer! Help out, Knowing and Doing, College 101, How to Jump-Start Success, Be Your Own CEO, Lasting Impressions, Branding: Gaining the Competitive Edge, and Networking Your Way to Success.  Torrez Gardner came away from the conference saying he’d benefitted from the interactive sessions, while fellow-student Faith Reeves, said she appreciated learning about college success and being on time for these sessions.

Trip Sponsor and teacher, Brandi Baucom said the entire trip was beneficial as the students were able to connect the skills they learned with successful business practices in order to be better leaders.
