Springfield High School boys soccer coach James Warren received a surprise on Wednesday, Jan. 27, when five representatives from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes presented him with a check for $1,100 to help with his team.

According to FCA area representative Charles Sparkman, “The Fellowship of Christians Athletes is a para-church ministry that prides itself on its intentionally serving and ministering to coaches because they are the individuals who are influencing the young people of each generation.”

Quoting evangelist Billy Graham, who said, “A coach will impact more people in one year than the average person will in an entire lifetime,” Sparkman noted,  We want to do whatever we can for Coaches, including helping them in a possible time of need.”

Sparkman elaborated on this particular gift, saying, “A few months ago our FCA office here in Northern Middle TN (Robertson Co., Sumner Co., Macon Co., Trousdale Co.) was presented with an opportunity to bless a coach who was sacrificing a lot of time and finances with his family in order to make sure his team was able to have home games and some new equipment.  We presented this opportunity to our Leadership Board at our Christmas Party and we raised a nice amount to present to him early this semester before this year’s season started.”

Coach Warren expressed his heartfelt thanks for the generosity, noting that team and athletic supplies were often difficult to provide.  He said the gift will be used in its entirety to provide needed material for his student athletes.
