The Tennessee Department of Education released 2018 ACT scores on Wednesday, October 31.

Robertson County public school students recorded a 96% participation rate and scored an average composite score of 19.9.  While this composite score equaled 2017 results, the percentage of on-time regular education graduates who scored 21 or higher increased from 40.8% to 41.4%.   Additionally, 18.6% of RCS students taking the test met all four ACT benchmarks, up from last year’s 17.8%, making Robertson County one of the higher achieving school districts in Middle Tennessee.

Dr. Chris Causey, RCS Director of Schools said he is pleased with the overall results from this year’s scores.

“While we always want our composite to grow to a goal of 21, we are excited with the growth in our percentage of students scoring a 21 and the percentage of students meeting all benchmarks.  This data shows that more students in Robertson County are ready for post-secondary opportunities which will lead to success in whatever path they choose.  The work of our teachers, students, and administrators, as well as the collaboration with community businesses, the Robertson County Chamber of Commerce, and the REdI Foundation is making this growth possible, and we look forward to even greater results for the Class of 2019.”

According to DOE Commissioner Candice McQueen, state ACT scores are, “an opportunity for our students to show they are college and career ready.”  She further noted that the class of 2018 was the second group to have access to a free opportunity to retake the ACT, and that because of this; the state has seen promising results from all students, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged. “With increased ACT access and participation, our state has sent a strong signal to the country that Tennessee is committed to providing opportunities for our students’ futures,” she said.

Robertson County Schools will continue to emphasize the importance of ACT scores for graduating seniors and to provide the scholastic environment that will enable all students to succeed.
