During this season of school closures, self-quarantine, and shelter-in-place due to increased health awareness, health science teachers from all Robertson County Schools high schools recently joined together behind the scenes to provide a small assist to the county’s NorthCrest Medical Center.

Jo Byrns health science teacher Ashley Corbin works weekends and school breaks at NMC as a Registered Nurse and saw the needs created by the current demand for services and care.  She contacted her RCS colleagues and collectively thy gathered supplies to donate to NMC. Corbin noted that she was inspired because of the dedication and efforts that NorthCrest personnel regularly display in working with RCS health science classes during the school year.

As a result of their efforts, district health science teachers donated over 800 protective gowns and over 400 surgical masks, n95 respirators and face shields to NMC, which are in critical shortages during the covid-19 outbreak.

After collecting the materials Corbin delivered them on Thursday, March 26, to the materials management department at NMC.  From there these items will be distributed throughout the hospital to help provide care to all of the Robertson County community.

NorthCrest CEO Randy Davis acknowledged the timeliness and usefulness of the donation saying, “We can't thank the Robertson County Schools enough for the personal protective equipment they provided. The emergent and critical need for these supplies was our largest concern, and this donation went a long way towards ensuring we are able to protect our staff, patients and this community.  We look forward to overcoming this crisis and we know we will by community efforts like this.”

Robertson County Schools is justifiably proud of these teachers, their vision, and their commitment to the district’s goal of measurable and pro-active community involvement.
