In what may be a first for Middle Tennessee, and is
certainly a first for Robertson County, three seniors inked scholarships to the
same school, for the same sport, at the same time.
White House Heritage High senior; Isabella Richardson,
Kenzie Mackenzie Bennett, and Emily Roque Hernandez all signed track
scholarships with Bethel University on Monday, Feb 10, in the Commons Area at
school.
Heritage track coach Kevin Doty spoke highly of the girls
and their abilities.
“I think this is great,” he said. All three of them are good friends, and I get
to see them race now in college.”
Doty went on to say that he thought the triple signing was a
first for Middle Tennessee.
“I’ve seen two, but I’ve never seen three sign together
before this,” he said.
Hernandez, who has only run for one season, said she’s
excited at the opportunity.
“I feel good,” she said.
I’m nervous and just happy that I got this opportunity.” She plans to major in biology and go to
dentistry school upon completion of college.
Bennett has been running for four years and says she likes
running and loves competition.
“I feel accomplished, and I feel like I finally am where I
want to be. I’m looking forward to the
future.” She intends to major in either
biology or chemistry.
Richardson said she never expected to run in college but is
thrilled at the opportunity. She’s run
since the 8th grade and enjoys cross country and mile events. Her goal is to major in nursing and
eventually become a pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
When asked about the uniqueness of the three of the signing
together at the same time, she summed up their relationship, saying, “We’re all
very competitive and have kept each other at a fast pace. We’ve enjoyed running together and wanted to
continue.”
