About Book Bus

The Book Bus project, which began in the Fall of 2022, is a mobile library designed to foster early literacy. It is uniquely adorned with artwork created by local students in the county.

The Governor's Early Literacy Foundation played a crucial role in this project by providing the seed grant funding to renovate a decommissioned school bus. The Book Bus has already made appearances at several literacy events throughout the district, generating excitement and encouraging reading among young learners!

A giant teddy bear sits beside shelves of colorful children's books inside a bus, with parked cars and trees visible through the windows in the background.
A converted school bus interior features rows of colorful books on shelves in the foreground, with sunlight streaming through the windows illuminating the patterned floor and trees visible in the background.
In the foreground, a converted school bus features orange benches and storage crates filled with books, while the background shows a bright, open doorway with a white car visible outside.
A stuffed dinosaur sits among children's books displayed on shelves, with a blurry outdoor scene visible through a window in the background.

We’d like to thank the many donors who contributed their time, expertise, or materials to this project. Special acknowledgments go to RCS Transportation and RCS Building and Grounds departments, Dynamix Collision, MakerTable, and Springfield Carpet One for their support.

Stay tuned for more information about the Book Bus and its travels as we continue to bring the joy of reading to our community!!
